Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department (CCSD) focuses on researching the evolution of civil society organizations (CSOs) into social enterprises. The intern will explore how these organizations transition from relying on charity to becoming businesses that contribute positively to society. The research will involve examining countries with thriving social enterprise sectors and identifying the enabling environments that facilitate their growth. The intern will be responsible for conducting a literature review, analyzing the social enterprise landscape in three developing member countries, and identifying constraints and opportunities for ADB to enhance support for social enterprises and civil society. The intern will also be expected to engage in discussions with their supervisor, outline the research, conduct the necessary research, and present findings through a PowerPoint presentation before finalizing a comprehensive report.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a thorough literature review on the evolution of civil society into social enterprises.
Identify and analyze examples of successful social enterprises in three developing member countries.
Assess the enabling environments that support social enterprise growth and the constraints faced by these organizations.
Collaborate with the supervisor to outline the research framework and objectives.
Ability to work independently, demonstrating a results-oriented approach.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Educational Background: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a master's degree program or pursuing a PhD in relevant fields such as social science or economics. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to conduct the research effectively.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have 2-3 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in research or writing roles. This experience should include a demonstrated ability to produce research reports and a solid understanding of civil society organizations and social enterprises. Strong writing skills and research capabilities are crucial for success in this position.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills required. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory for this position.
