Job Overview: The intern will be engaged in a critical project under the Economic Research and Development Impact Department (ERDI) and the Economic Analysis and Operational Support Division (EREA). This role will also involve assisting in the organization of workshops and training events aimed at developing a monitoring and evaluation plan for gender-transformative outcomes in ADB projects. The internship is expected to last for 11 weeks, starting in June 2026, and will provide the intern with valuable experience in gender research and policy analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a systematic review of gender-transformative interventions, focusing on successful and unsuccessful outcomes.
Analyze interventions in various sectors such as education, financial inclusion, and social protection.
Differentiate between interventions targeting men and boys versus those targeting women and girls.
Assist in organizing workshops and training events for ADB projects.
Develop a gender-transformative outcome monitoring and evaluation plan (OMEP).
Collaborate with ADB staff and stakeholders to gather relevant data and insights.
Draft reports and presentations summarizing findings from the systematic review.
Stay updated on current ADB projects related to gender and contribute to discussions on best practices.
Required Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a PhD program in economics, public policy, or development studies.
Must have completed all coursework requirements and be at an advanced dissertation-writing stage (one to two years from submission).
Strong interest and knowledge in gender transformation research and policy, particularly in the context of developing countries.
Prior research experience in gender-related topics is highly preferred.
Deep understanding of microeconometrics, especially quasi-experimental and experimental methods, as evidenced by academic transcripts or publications.
Familiarity with systematic review methodologies is essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a PhD program in economics, public policy, or development studies. They should have completed all necessary coursework and be at an advanced stage of their dissertation work, ideally within one to two years of submission. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender-transformative interventions and conducting rigorous research.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have 2-3 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in research related to gender transformation in developing countries. Experience conducting systematic reviews is highly preferred, as is familiarity with microeconometric methods. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the research landscape in gender issues, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.
Languages: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the Asia-Pacific region may be considered an asset, but English is the primary language of communication within ADB.
