Job Overview: The IT Solution Architect position at WFP is a critical role that involves leading the technical design and implementation of IT solutions. The architect will report to the Head of Corporate Solutions Development and will be responsible for ensuring that all IT solutions are compliant with WFP standards and meet high-quality standards in usability and domain suitability. This role requires collaboration with off-site development teams, providing guidance and direction to ensure successful project execution. The architect will also be involved in preparing high-level effort estimations for development projects and will play a key role in maintaining the continuous improvement and deployment infrastructure. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where the architect can influence the development of innovative IT solutions that support WFP's mission.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the IT Solution Architect include designing the software architecture and data model for IT solutions, ensuring compliance with WFP standards, providing direction to development teams, preparing effort estimations, reviewing and approving backlog tickets, creating technical tickets for quality assurance, setting up and maintaining IT solution environments, ensuring IT security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security measures are in place, collaborating on CI/CD infrastructure, fostering an open communication culture within the team, and acting as a Scrum Master when necessary. The architect will also facilitate Scrum ceremonies, resolve impediments for the development team, and perform other software development-related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the IT Solution Architect position must possess a university degree or a minimum of 8 years of equivalent working experience in software development or related fields. They should have a strong background in web technologies, including Python, Django, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Proficiency in developing high-quality IT solutions, knowledge of Git and branch management techniques, and familiarity with Scrum methodologies are essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience with Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) practices.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as computer science, information technology, or software engineering. Alternatively, candidates with significant experience in software development and related areas may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of experience in software development, with a proven track record of planning, leading, and executing related projects. Experience in working with diverse teams and managing complex IT solutions is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, candidates with intermediate knowledge of another official UN language such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) will be considered advantageous.
