Job Overview:

The intern will engage in a historical analysis of defaults, losses, and recoveries in the private sector operations of ADB. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to gain hands-on experience in how a multilateral development bank identifies, measures, and governs credit risk. The intern will analyze historical payment default and recovery data for the Non-Sovereign Operations (NSO) portfolio, preparing comprehensive reports for both internal and external stakeholders. The position also involves supporting the implementation of new Loss-Given-Default (LGD) rating scorecards, which includes testing, documentation, and presenting findings to management. The intern will assist RMPA staff with research and analysis to update risk policies and methodologies, contributing to the drafting of briefs, slide decks, and dashboards that communicate technical findings effectively to senior stakeholders. Participation in team meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions is expected, along with summarizing insights and tracking action items. The intern will work under the guidance of RMPA staff and collaborate with colleagues across ORM and selected operational departments, adhering to ADB's policies on confidentiality, ethics, and data governance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Analyze historical payment default and recovery data for the Non-Sovereign Operations (NSO) portfolio and prepare comprehensive reports for internal and external use.
  • Support the roll-out of new Loss-Given-Default (LGD) rating scorecards, including testing, implementation, documentation, and presentation to management.
  • Assist RMPA staff with research and analysis to inform updates to risk policies, methodologies, and guidance notes.
  • Contribute to drafting concise briefs, slide decks, and dashboards that translate technical findings into clear messages for senior stakeholders.
  • Participate in team meetings and knowledge-sharing sessions; summarize insights and track action items.
  • Work under the guidance of RMPA staff and collaborate with colleagues across ORM and select operational departments, adhering to ADB's policies on confidentiality, ethics, and data governance.

Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a master's degree program or PhD in finance, economics, statistics, data science, engineering, public policy, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel.
  • Familiarity with risk frameworks and an eye for data quality and reproducible workflows.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a master's degree program or pursuing a PhD in relevant fields such as finance, economics, statistics, data science, engineering, public policy, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of risk management and analysis in a multilateral development bank context.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have 2-3 years of relevant professional experience, which may include internships or roles in finance, risk management, data analysis, or related fields.
