Job Overview:
The Pilates Instructor position is a vital role within the IRC's Holistic Support Center (HSC) in Rome, specifically designed to support the psychosocial activities of women, children, and non-binary adults. The instructor will be responsible for planning, designing, and delivering weekly Pilates classes that cater to the unique needs of the participants. The classes aim to create a safe and trauma-informed environment, allowing attendees to engage in physical activity that promotes both mental and physical well-being. The instructor will work closely with the IRC staff to ensure that the classes are tailored to the participants' varying skill levels and needs, fostering a supportive atmosphere that encourages personal growth and community building. The role requires a commitment to inclusivity and understanding of the challenges faced by the women attending the HSC, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds such as refugees and asylum seekers. The instructor will also be expected to track client progress and provide constructive feedback, ensuring that each participant feels valued and supported in their journey.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Pilates Instructor will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Planning, designing, and delivering weekly in-person Pilates classes tailored to the needs of women attending the HSC.
  • Developing instructional materials that address the diverse skill levels and backgrounds of participants.
  • Providing clear guidance on proper form, alignment, and breathing techniques during classes.
  • Offering modifications for participants with varying skill levels, injuries, or special conditions, such as pre/post-natal.
  • Utilizing a range of equipment, including mats, reformers, and small apparatus like resistance bands and balls, to enhance the class experience.
  • Monitoring clients during sessions to ensure safety and prevent injury.
  • Building rapport with participants to foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
  • Tracking client progress and providing constructive feedback to encourage improvement and confidence.
  • Collaborating with IRC staff to schedule classes and ensure alignment with the overall goals of the HSC.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Pilates Instructor position must possess a range of qualifications, including:
  • Proven experience teaching Pilates to a diverse range of individuals, demonstrating adaptability to different skill levels and needs.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills to effectively manage class schedules and participant engagement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Problem-solving abilities to address challenges that may arise during classes or with participants.
  • Personal qualities such as empathy, patience, and the ability to work well in a team-oriented, multicultural environment.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate for the Pilates Instructor position should have a relevant educational background, which may include certifications in Pilates instruction from recognized institutions. Additional training in areas such as physical education, health sciences, or psychology may be beneficial, particularly in understanding the needs of the participants and providing appropriate support.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience teaching Pilates in a professional setting, with a demonstrated ability to work in multicultural environments. Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly refugees or individuals facing trauma, is highly desirable.

Languages:
While proficiency in English is mandatory, knowledge of additional languages such as Arabic, Spanish, French, Ukrainian, Urdu, Pashtu, or Farsi is considered an asset. This linguistic diversity will enhance communication with participants and foster a more inclusive environment.
