Job Overview: The Protection Coordinator will be based in the NRC Nyala Office, playing a crucial role in supporting operations aimed at improving the protection response for displacement-affected communities. This position involves establishing mechanisms for effective communication with communities, ensuring that information is shared and feedback is received from displaced and vulnerable host communities. The role also emphasizes community engagement, where affected communities participate alongside local stakeholders in humanitarian and development responses. The Protection Coordinator will provide individual protection assistance, including proactive accompaniment, referrals, and cash and in-kind assistance to individuals at risk. Additionally, the coordinator will lead teams in conducting protection assessments, monitoring, and analysis, enhancing community outreach through the planning and supervision of protection activities, and supporting the establishment and capacity building of community committees while coordinating with relevant stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Coordinator is responsible for coordinating teams and activities to implement protection activities in NRC Sudan Nyala. Key responsibilities include: managing Protection project field staff, adhering to NRC policies and procedures, contributing to the development of Protection from Violence (PfV) strategies, managing and implementing delegated portfolios of Protection projects, providing regular progress reports, ensuring projects target beneficiaries in need, promoting ideas for improvement, ensuring capacity building of project staff, liaising with local authorities and stakeholders, and advocating for the rights of IDPs, returnees, and refugees. Specific responsibilities include supervising community centers and mobile teams, planning project activities and spending plans, collaborating with the Protection PM to develop necessary tools for project implementation, leading operational coordination for Protection teams, overseeing program quality, contributing to risk management frameworks, ensuring documentation of project activities, conducting field visits for monitoring, and managing relationships with key stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Political Science, Social Science, International Relations, or a relevant subject. They should have at least three years of experience in project implementation within an NGO or UN agency, with a minimum of one year in a team leadership or line management position. Experience in CCCM and Protection, ideally in Sudan, is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate excellent planning, prioritization, multitasking, and team-working skills, along with the ability to cope with stressful situations. Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel) is required, and knowledge in fields such as WASH or Shelter/infrastructure is desirable. Experience with NRC is also considered an asset.
Educational Background: A university degree in a relevant field such as Political Science, Social Science, or International Relations is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical foundation and understanding of the complex issues surrounding protection and humanitarian assistance, which are critical for effective performance in the role of Protection Coordinator.
