Job Overview:
The position of Extended-Term Consultant (Environmental Analyst) at the World Bank is designed to provide essential administrative and analytical support for the monitoring and quality control of the safeguards and Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) portfolio within the Central Safeguards Unit (SAEM3) of the Eastern and Southern Africa region. This role is particularly suited for recent graduates holding a BSc or MSc degree who are eager to gain practical experience in environmental and social risk management within a leading global institution. The consultant will be involved in implementing the World Bank's environmental and social risk management policies, ensuring that all investment projects adhere to high standards of environmental, social, health, and safety practices. The position is initially for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and business needs, up to a maximum of three years.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Environmental Analyst will be responsible for a variety of key tasks, including: collaborating closely with the Practice Manager and Environmental and Social (E&S) Specialists to ensure the quality of risk management and safeguards work; maintaining and managing key spreadsheets and databases for the environmental safeguards/ESF portfolio; coordinating the review and clearance processes of various ESF instruments; conducting preliminary quality control checks on essential documents such as environmental impact assessments; supporting the safeguards team in the initial screening of Bank projects for environmental risks; and contributing to the analysis and dissemination of lessons learned from Bank projects for knowledge and research purposes. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying risk management opportunities and strategies, particularly in areas such as occupational health and safety and climate change adaptation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of a BSc degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or related fields such as environmental science or natural resources management. Additionally, 0-2 years of relevant professional experience in environmental and social risk management is required, along with experience in managing environmental, social, health, and safety risks. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively under pressure with limited supervision. Fluency in English is mandatory, encompassing writing, speaking, listening, and reading skills. Candidates should also demonstrate strong analytical abilities and strategic thinking skills, with the capacity to synthesize diverse qualitative and quantitative data.

Educational Background:
The position requires a minimum educational qualification of a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or a related field such as environmental science or natural resources management. A Master's degree (MSc) in a relevant discipline may be advantageous but is not explicitly required.

Experience:
