Job Overview:
The position of International Consultant for Passive Cooling Guidelines is pivotal in supporting UNEP's Cool Coalition and Passive Cooling Working Group. The consultant will be responsible for delivering two major digital submissions: the Passive Cooling Guidelines focusing on Performance Indicators for Energy and Comfort, and the Passive Cooling Guidelines addressing Building and Cities Codes from a Policy Perspective. Each submission will consist of over 50 pages, featuring detailed descriptions and illustrations in English. The consultant will work remotely and is expected to engage with UNEP officials and working group members to develop these guidelines, which are aimed at enhancing sustainability in buildings, particularly in hot and tropical regions where cooling demand is significant throughout the year.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's primary duties will include:
  • Leading the development of the Passive Cooling Guidelines by conducting thorough research and consultations with stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with UNEP officials and members of the Passive Cooling Working Group to ensure the guidelines are comprehensive and practical.
  • Producing high-quality digital documents that include detailed descriptions and illustrations to effectively communicate the guidelines.
  • Ensuring that the guidelines align with the New Urban Agenda and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Engaging with various stakeholders, including government representatives, design professionals, and civil society groups, to facilitate knowledge exchange and advocacy for passive cooling strategies.
  • Providing expertise on thermal comfort and passive cooling techniques to support the implementation of the guidelines in real-world scenarios.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of two years of professional experience, particularly in the buildings and construction sector, climate change, energy efficiency, and sustainable finance. Experience in developing guidelines or policies related to sustainable building practices is highly desirable. Additionally, prior exposure to working with international organizations will be considered an asset. The qualifications will be evaluated based on the relevance and depth of experience in the aforementioned fields.

Educational Background:
A first-level university degree recognized by the United Nations is required.
