Job Posting Organization:
The UNDP Global Centre for Technology, Innovation and Sustainable Development (GC-TISD) is a part of the UNDP’s Digital, AI and Innovation (DAI) Hub. Established in 2019 as a joint initiative between the Government of Singapore and UNDP, the Centre aims to leverage digital, data, and systems innovation to assist governments in tackling complex development challenges. The Centre is based in Singapore and draws on the country's strengths in sustainability policy, technology, and innovation. It engages a broad ecosystem of government agencies, private sector actors, academia, and thought leaders to connect policymakers and practitioners globally, facilitating the exchange of insights and co-creation of practical solutions that advance sustainable development. The Centre is now entering its 2025–2028 phase and focuses on identifying, co-creating, and scaling innovative technological solutions that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a central thematic focus on Climate and Sustainability.

Job Overview:
The internship at GC-TISD offers a unique opportunity for interns to engage in a rich learning experience across various areas. Interns will gain in-depth insights and hands-on experience in sustainable development and technological innovation, understanding the intersection of cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices. They will also acquire skills in policy development and strategic partnerships, engaging with a global network of stakeholders. Additionally, interns will learn about multilateralism and global collaboration, understanding the role of international organizations in addressing global challenges. The internship will involve assisting in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data related to circular economy, decarbonisation policies, and air quality solutions, particularly focusing on developing countries. Interns will actively contribute to written content such as policy briefs, blogs, and reports, and collaborate with the UNDP Global Centre team to design capacity-building programs on decarbonisation policies, bringing together counterparts from UNDP Country Offices to exchange best practices. They will also contribute to the development of publications documenting the outcomes of the Centre's workplan.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Research and Thought Leadership: Assist in analyzing qualitative and quantitative data related to circular economy, decarbonisation policies, and air quality solutions, focusing on developing countries. Co-author written content such as policy briefs, blogs, and reports at the intersection of development, climate, and sustainability. Collaborate with the UNDP Global Centre team to design a capacity-building program on decarbonisation policies. Contribute to the development of publications documenting the outcomes of the Centre's workplan.
  • Strategic Advocacy and Partnership Development: Identify and engage with strategic partners in the climate and sustainability sector to understand their interests and explore mutually beneficial partnerships in Singapore, regionally, and globally.
  • Event Management Support: Assist in conceptualizing, preparing, and organizing events such as webinars, workshops, and trainings, both in-person and online, aligned with the Centre's Climate and Sustainability focus. Create compelling visual materials, including presentations, charts, and infographics, to showcase the Centre's work on climate and sustainability.
  • Learning, Development, and Networking: Engage in learning and personal development opportunities within UNDP and the broader Singapore ecosystem. Participate in relevant networking events in Singapore linked to the Centre's work.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements: Currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree; or currently enrolled in a Master’s degree; or have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent studies. Candidates should demonstrate a deep commitment to sustainability issues, showing a profound interest in addressing climate change and sustainability challenges, particularly in developing countries. They should exhibit awareness of pressing environmental issues and a desire to contribute towards solving these challenges. Proven experience in sharing knowledge and showcasing results through high-quality communication products and/or organizing interactive webinars is essential. Familiarity with international development and public service delivery is an advantage. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams) is required, and knowledge of data visualization and analysis tools (e.g., Canva, PowerBi) is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be either in their final year of a Bachelor’s degree, currently enrolled in a Master’s degree, or have graduated within the last year from a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent studies. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of sustainable development and technological innovation.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a deep commitment to sustainability issues and a demonstrated interest in addressing climate change and sustainability challenges, particularly in developing countries. Familiarity with international development and public service delivery is advantageous, as is experience in sharing knowledge and producing high-quality communication products. Candidates should also possess strong research and analytical skills, as well as organizational and event management capabilities.

Languages:
Fluency in English (both spoken and written) is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered an advantage, as it may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the Centre's global outreach efforts.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, but UNDP will provide a stipend of approximately 859.13 SGD monthly in accordance with its internship policy. All other expenses related to the internship will be borne by the intern or their sponsoring government or institution. Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station. They must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan and are not eligible to apply for or be appointed to any post in UNDP during the internship. Interns are expected to work full-time, but flexibility is allowed for educational programs. They must be nationals of the duty station or hold a valid residency permit at the time of application.
