Job Overview: The Project/Grant Accountant will play a crucial role in coordinating and implementing the POISED CDC Project's policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with CRS' accounting standards, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and donor regulations. This position involves performing accounting services, documenting financial transactions, and preparing financial reports throughout the project lifecycle. The accountant will be responsible for either payable or receivable transactions, depending on the project's complexity. The role requires a proactive approach to financial management, ensuring that all financial activities align with established standards and contribute to the project's success.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project/Grant Accountant will set and monitor sound accounting and financial reporting procedures for the POISED project subrecipients and partners. Key responsibilities include ensuring the setup and maintenance of data for processing financial transactions, reviewing and validating supporting documentation, recording financial transactions, and analyzing accounts for irregularities. The accountant will advise on corrective actions, assess subrecipient financial management processes, monitor disbursement schedules, prepare periodic and ad hoc financial reports, assist with budget maintenance, and provide training on financial accounting policies. Additionally, the accountant will perform treasury duties and undertake any other tasks assigned by the Head of Finance and the POISED Chief of Party.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business administration with relevant accounting courses. A qualification in accounting such as CPA, ACCA, or ICAN is required, while a Master’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of financial management principles and practices, as well as experience with public donor regulations and financial reporting software.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business administration is essential, with coursework in accounting. Professional accounting qualifications such as CPA, ACCA, or ICAN are mandatory. A Master’s degree in accounting or finance is considered an advantage, providing a deeper understanding of financial principles and practices relevant to the role.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three to five years of experience in a similar role, preferably within an international or local NGO, or in a financial or banking institution. This experience should include responsibilities related to financial management, accounting, and reporting, demonstrating the ability to handle complex financial transactions and compliance requirements effectively.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for performing the job duties effectively. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
