The organization seeks to foster impactful partnerships to deliver tangible actions on the ground and advocates for an inclusive approach to energy design, ensuring meaningful participation from all stakeholders.
Job Overview: The position involves recruiting 9 online volunteers to assist in the development of a centralized Photo Bank, which will serve as a vital resource for the Sustainable Energy Hub's communications and outreach initiatives. Volunteers will be tasked with uploading, tagging, and expanding the image database on the Piwigo platform, ensuring that metadata is preserved and that visuals are organized and searchable. Each volunteer will take the lead on one of the 5 UNDP regions and specific thematics for sourcing photos. They will be responsible for sourcing, cataloguing, and tagging a minimum of 200 photos from their assigned region and themes. The assignment will be divided into two phases: the first phase focuses on building the photo bank through sourcing, uploading, and tagging images, while the second phase involves applying the curated photos to the Sustainable Energy Academy slides in Figma, ensuring proper documentation of all visuals used.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Apply accurate and consistent tags to each photo using a taxonomy provided by the SEH team, ensuring clear organization and uniform metadata formatting across all images.
Scrape metadata from the previous platform (Flickr) to ensure that author, license, and description information is preserved during the migration of photos into the Piwigo platform.
Identify and compile additional high-quality, relevant images to support UNDP’s Sustainable Energy Academy.
Replace images in designated Figma slides using the curated photo bank.
Document any newly sourced images used in slides in a shared metadata tracking sheet.
Collaborate with other volunteers and UNDP professionals to ensure the successful completion of the photo bank project.
Participate in weekly meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and insights gained from the project.
Required Qualifications:
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Familiarity with photo editing and cataloguing software, particularly Piwigo and Figma.
Basic understanding of metadata and its importance in digital asset management.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
A passion for sustainable development and visual communication.
Educational Background: A background in communications, media studies, environmental science, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory. Relevant coursework or experience in digital asset management, photography, or visual communication will be advantageous.
Experience: No prior experience is required, but familiarity with digital platforms for photo management and editing is a plus. Volunteers should be comfortable working in a remote setting and managing their time effectively to meet project deadlines.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not required.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position with no financial compensation. The role is fully remote, allowing volunteers to work from anywhere. The duration of the assignment is not specified, but volunteers are expected to commit to the project for the duration necessary to complete their tasks. This opportunity provides valuable experience in visual communication and sustainable development, along with networking opportunities with professionals in the field.
