Job Overview: The HR Intern position is designed to provide administrative and operational support to the Department of Global Communications (DGC) within the One EO. The intern will be involved in various tasks that support the overall mission of the UN by ensuring that administrative functions are carried out effectively. This role is crucial as it helps maintain the operational flow of HR services, which are essential for the functioning of the UN's Secretariat client entities. The intern will work closely with HR Partners and report to the Chief of the desk, gaining valuable experience in human resources management and administrative support within a large international organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The HR Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: providing general administrative support, assisting in the preparation of HR-related reports and official correspondence, tracking workflows, organizing documentation, and facilitating communication with internal stakeholders. The intern will also participate in special administrative initiatives as required by the One EO. In terms of data analytics and reporting, the intern will support the monitoring of HR metrics using Microsoft Excel, creating and maintaining Pivot Tables, and preparing monthly staffing reports and analytical summaries. Additionally, the intern will assist in analyzing data related to workplace well-being, staff engagement, and diversity initiatives, contributing to the development of policies and organizational strategies.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent), or be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study related to the internship is necessary. Strong knowledge of standard software applications, including MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS SharePoint, is essential. Experience with building dashboards in Power BI and/or Tableau is highly desirable, along with previous experience providing administrative support and familiarity with Human Resources Administration, data sciences, and statistics.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes enrollment in or completion of a bachelor's degree program or a graduate school program. The field of study should be relevant to the internship, ideally focusing on human resources, business administration, data analytics, or a related discipline. This educational foundation will equip the intern with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform effectively in the role.
Experience: While applicants are not required to have professional work experience, any previous experience in administrative support, human resources, data analysis, or related fields will be considered an asset. Experience in data-driven work, archiving, and familiarity with HR metrics will enhance the candidate's suitability for the internship.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is desirable and will be beneficial in a multicultural work environment.
