Job Overview:
This consultancy position is located within UNEP’s Communication Division, which is responsible for leading the organization’s global communications and advocacy efforts. The role of the Graphic Designer is crucial in developing and implementing a cohesive, modern, and innovative visual identity for significant campaigns such as World Environment Day 2026 and other UNEP initiatives. The position requires a blend of traditional graphic design expertise and advanced skills in digital-first and social media-driven design. The Graphic Designer will work under the guidance of the Director of the Communication Division and the direct supervision of the Communication Lead for Special Events, ensuring that all visual outputs align with UNEP’s strategic communication goals and effectively engage diverse audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Graphic Designer will be responsible for creating a creative campaign concept with multiple visual explorations and use cases. This includes developing a campaign look and feel that is applicable across all platforms, producing a comprehensive brand and visual identity guide that encompasses typography, color palettes, layout systems, and usage rules. The designer will provide design input to the campaign marketing brief, create social media assets and templates, and design billboards, posters, and outdoor advertising materials. Additionally, the role involves producing website and digital campaign visuals, presentation decks, and campaign toolkits, as well as delivering final, production-ready files for print, digital, multimedia, and web use. A campaign wrap-up report will also be required to evaluate the effectiveness of the visual identity and its impact on the campaign's success.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in graphic design, visual communications, or creative direction. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in graphic design, visual communication, or creative direction is required, preferably with international organizations or global public-facing campaigns. Proven experience in developing campaign visual identities, brand systems, and style guides from concept to execution is essential. Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and motion tools such as After Effects is required. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate experience in producing assets across various formats, including print, outdoor, digital, social media, web, and multimedia.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in graphic design, visual communications, or creative direction is required for this position. Candidates with a first-level university degree and additional qualifying experience may also be considered. This educational background ensures that the candidate has a solid foundation in design principles and practices necessary for the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in graphic design, visual communication, or creative direction. This experience should preferably include work supporting international organizations or global public-facing campaigns, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex design challenges in a multicultural or international environment.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, is desirable and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.
