Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Economic and Fiscal Policy Unit (EFPU) of UNEP in its efforts to assist countries in their sustainable financial and economic transformations. This includes the implementation of UNEA resolutions aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the adoption of inclusive green economy (IGE) and sustainable consumption and production (SCP) pathways. The consultant will be expected to coordinate and support key project activities, facilitate validation processes, and provide oversight and quality assurance for analytical deliverables. The role requires a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively within a remote working environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties will include coordinating and supporting project activities related to the EFPU's objectives, such as organizing stakeholder communications and documenting technical validation workshops. The consultant will also facilitate validation processes for various project outputs, ensuring that all necessary documentation and follow-up actions are completed. Additionally, the consultant will provide oversight and quality assurance for analytical deliverables, including reviewing and providing feedback on reports and roadmaps related to sustainable infrastructure and budgeting. Participation in capacity-building workshops and knowledge exchange events will also be part of the consultant's responsibilities, requiring effective coordination and communication skills.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s) in environmental economics, international relations/development, public policy, public administration, economics, or a related field. More than 5 years of work experience in programme and project management, technical cooperation, and public policy is required, preferably within a UN or international organization context. Candidates should have a strong understanding of inclusive green economy themes, including economic policies and sustainable development, as well as experience in using analytical and qualitative tools for data analysis and research. Experience liaising with government and national stakeholders is essential, and familiarity with international multi-stakeholder contexts is desirable.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s) in a relevant field such as environmental economics, international relations, public policy, or economics is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of sustainable development and economic policies.
Experience: Candidates should have over 5 years of relevant work experience, particularly in programme and project management, technical cooperation, and public policy. Experience in a UN or international organization context is highly preferred, as it provides the necessary understanding of the operational frameworks and challenges faced in sustainable development initiatives.
Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory for this position, as the consultant will be required to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Knowledge of French is considered desirable, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with a broader range of partners and resources.
