Job Overview: The intern will work closely with the UNEP FI Finance Team, contributing to the UNEP FI Secretariat's mission of promoting sustainable finance. The position involves extracting and analyzing large data sets to identify trends and derive financial insights, reviewing obligations, and assisting in drafting presentations and reports. The intern will also support the invoicing process, maintain records of members, assist in budgetary actions, and help with website maintenance. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about finance and sustainability, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a global organization while contributing to significant environmental initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: 1) Extract and analyze large data sets to identify trends and patterns in UN data sets and derive financial insights. 2) Review obligations and assist with necessary actions to close them. 3) Draft and prepare presentations and reports, undertaking other tasks as requested. 4) Assist the FI Finance team with invoicing processes, tracking invoices, filing paperwork, and following up with member institutions as needed. 5) Draft and reconcile billing statements with balances on the receivables general ledger and monitor cash application deposits. 6) Maintain records of members who have received bills for various sponsorships and memberships. 7) Assist in drafting responses to queries from UNEP FI members. 8) Support budgetary actions. 9) Complete vendor/supplier forms for UNEP FI members and upload invoices on vendor management systems. 10) Assist with UNEP FI website maintenance. 11) Collect and analyze data, preparing presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning, and decision-making. 12) Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c) Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Candidates should demonstrate strong administrative and analytical skills, a sound knowledge of finance, and excellent research, communication, and writing skills in English. A high degree of motivation and self-organization is also required.
Educational Background: Candidates should be final year undergraduate or master’s degree students in Business Administration, Finance, or a related area, or have recently graduated (candidates are eligible for this position up to one year after the graduation date). Proof of enrollment or graduation date must be provided if selected for this position. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, but a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary.
Experience: No professional work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, candidates should have relevant training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that would benefit the United Nations during their internship. It is essential for applicants to explain how they meet the criteria related to their field of study.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French, is desirable and would be considered an asset for the position.
