Job Overview:
The consultant will work under the supervision of the Asia-Pacific Regional Mobility Lead, closely collaborating with the Gender Focal Point of UNEP’s Sustainable Mobility Unit (SMU). The primary functions of this position include supporting the organization of a regional thematic accelerator focused on E-Mobility and Gender, coordinating a networking event on Gender, Energy, and Transport, and overseeing the third phase of a BMZ-funded initiative in Jakarta, Indonesia. The consultant will also be responsible for preparing a Gender-Transformative Technician Training Framework and conducting a Baseline Study on End-of-Life Management Practices for Electric Two- and Three-Wheeler (E2/3W) Batteries in select Asian countries. The role requires a strong emphasis on stakeholder engagement, logistical support, and the development of actionable recommendations for the management of E2/3W batteries.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several specific responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the organization of a regional thematic accelerator in collaboration with GIZ and local partners.
  • Coordinating a networking event at the Better Air Quality (BAQ) Asia Conference, including participant outreach and logistical support.
  • Overseeing the planning and coordination of the BMZ-funded initiative in Jakarta, ensuring compliance with reporting and deliverables.
  • Preparing a Gender-Transformative Technician Training Framework based on insights from pilot projects.
  • Conducting a literature review and stakeholder mapping for end-of-life E2/3W batteries.
  • Developing and conducting a survey for local stakeholders regarding battery management practices.
  • Interviewing key respondents to gather insights on battery management.
  • Developing a comprehensive report on E2/3W battery management pathways in Asia, including recommendations for scalability.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in gender studies, sustainable transport, urban planning, or related fields. A first-level degree with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. At least 5 years of relevant experience in sustainable transport, electric mobility, and/or gender is required, along with proven expertise in sustainable transport projects within the Asia Pacific region. Candidates should have a solid understanding of electric mobility technologies and policy frameworks, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and strong technical writing and communication abilities. Experience in event planning and logistics is desirable, as is prior experience in an international organization or government agency.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in gender studies, sustainable transport, urban planning, or related fields is required. Alternatively, a first-level degree with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience working on sustainable transport, electric mobility, and/or gender issues. Proven expertise in sustainable transport projects within the Asia Pacific region is essential, along with a solid understanding of electric mobility technologies and policy frameworks.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as English and French are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
