Job Overview: The Protection Assistant - PCM Case Worker will play a crucial role in implementing protection case management activities in Dima, Ethiopia. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about humanitarian work and have a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable populations affected by crises. The Protection Assistant will work under the guidance of the protection team leader and receive technical support from the CM protection specialist. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide case management services to survivors and other beneficiaries, ensuring that their needs are met in a safe and confidential manner. The assistant will engage with the DRC protection team and collaborate with community structures and partner organizations to deliver effective protection services. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying and addressing protection risks, conducting assessments, and developing tailored case plans for beneficiaries. The Protection Assistant will also be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and reporting on case management activities, contributing to the overall effectiveness of DRC's protection programming.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Assistant will have a wide range of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: implementing general protection case management activities in accordance with international standards and DRC guidelines; identifying and receiving referrals of individuals facing protection risks; conducting intake interviews and comprehensive protection risk assessments; developing tailored case plans or safety plans with survivors; conducting follow-up case management processes; assisting in establishing integrated protection case management centers; providing regular reports on case management activities; maintaining and updating case management databases; participating in supervision sessions and internal case conferences; and supporting the protection monitoring team in assessing protection trends and needs. The role also involves ensuring ethical data collection and analysis, as well as documenting all cases accurately to inform programming and response activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Protection Assistant position should possess a minimum of 1 year of experience in a relevant field, such as humanitarian protection or social services. Experience working in the Tigray region is strongly preferred, as is a proven record of community engagement and consultation. Applicants should have a technical understanding of core protection concepts and strategies, as well as experience in identifying and responding to the needs of vulnerable individuals. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, is required, and familiarity with data collection and analysis tools such as Kobo is preferable.
Educational Background: A university degree in social work, social science, law, or a related field from a recognized institution is required for this position. Relevant certifications or licenses that enhance the candidate's qualifications will also be considered favorably.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 1 year of experience in an entry to mid-level position within the humanitarian protection sector or a related social service field. Experience in the Tigray region is strongly mandatory, as it provides valuable context and understanding of the local challenges faced by vulnerable populations. Candidates should demonstrate a history of direct implementation of community-based protection activities and have a proven record of engaging with communities through assessments, training, workshops, or awareness sessions.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, along with good proficiency in Amharic and Tigrinya. These language skills are essential for effective communication with beneficiaries and stakeholders in the region, ensuring that the Protection Assistant can provide the necessary support and services to those in need.
