The intern will be responsible for managing social media accounts, updating the website, assisting in the creation of newsletters, and supporting design and visual communication efforts. The intern will work closely with the communications team to ensure that all outputs align with UNEP's branding and communication strategies. Duties and Responsibilities:
Social Media Management: The intern will support the day-to-day management of the Cool Coalition's social media accounts across all platforms. This includes drafting, scheduling, and publishing posts, as well as providing live coverage during key events. The intern will monitor engagement metrics, track basic analytics, and suggest improvements to enhance reach and impact.
Website Management: The intern will assist in regularly updating the Cool Coalition website, ensuring that news items, resources, and event pages are current and accurate. This includes reviewing web pages for clarity and alignment with UNEP branding guidelines, as well as coordinating with technical service providers to address any issues.
Newsletters: The intern will help draft, edit, and format newsletters and targeted email updates, selecting appropriate content and visuals. They will also track performance indicators for newsletters and suggest enhancements.
Design and Visual Communication: The intern will support the design of communication materials, including social media graphics, event flyers, and infographics, using UN-approved tools. They will also assist in creating PowerPoint presentations for various events, ensuring visual consistency and clarity.
Knowledge Management Support: The intern will assist in preparing communication emails, monitoring the communications inbox, and maintaining partner contact lists. They will perform other communications-related tasks as required by their supervisor, ensuring all work aligns with UNEP rules and procedures.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should have completed or be currently pursuing a degree in communications, media, marketing, design, or a related field. Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite, is essential. Familiarity with website content management systems, preferably Drupal, and experience with email marketing tools are also required. Basic graphic design skills using tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Canva are necessary, along with comfort in using collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint. A basic understanding of social media analytics and digital performance tracking tools is advantageous.
Educational Background: Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree as defined above. This educational background is crucial for understanding the communication strategies and tools used in the role.
Experience: No prior work experience is required for this internship position. However, candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs is essential, as is a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional UN language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
