Job Overview:
The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) position is based in Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the ILO Decent Work Technical Support Team for East and South-East Asia and the Pacific. The primary objective of this role is to provide technical support to ILO Country Offices in the region, assisting governments, employers' and workers' organizations in promoting decent work. The JPO will work closely with the Senior Specialist on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, engaging in various activities such as drafting terms of reference for technical outputs, reviewing reports, and preparing training sessions. The role also involves advocacy work on fundamental principles and rights at work, particularly concerning child labor and forced labor. The JPO will contribute to the design and implementation of development cooperation projects and resource mobilization efforts in the region, while also participating in research and publications relevant to the ILO's mandate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The JPO will perform a variety of duties under the supervision of the Senior Specialist on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. Key responsibilities include drafting terms of reference for technical outputs, reviewing and finalizing reports, and preparing and delivering training sessions, workshops, and seminars for stakeholders. The JPO will assist in designing and implementing development cooperation projects related to fundamental principles and rights at work, as well as contribute to project monitoring and evaluation. The position requires proactive engagement with ILO projects addressing forced labor and child labor, and the JPO will be expected to collaborate closely with other specialists within the Decent Work Technical Team in Bangkok. The role also includes conducting research and contributing to regional and country-specific publications, as well as supporting advocacy efforts on fundamental principles and rights at work.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in social sciences, economics, law, or a related field. Alternatively, candidates with a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of relevant working experience may also be considered. It is essential that a substantial part of the candidates' academic training has taken place in a developing country listed as eligible by the Nedworc Foundation. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant working experience after obtaining their first university degree, specifically in the area of fundamental principles and rights at work, at either the national or international level. For those with a Bachelor's degree, a minimum of four years of relevant experience is required, and work experience within the UN system should not exceed one year, including UNV, paid internships, and consultancies.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in fields such as social sciences, economics, law, or related disciplines. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree may be considered if they have at least four years of relevant work experience. It is crucial that candidates' academic training includes substantial time spent in a developing country that is recognized on the eligible countries list provided by the Nedworc Foundation.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant working experience after obtaining the first university degree in the field of fundamental principles and rights at work. For candidates with a Bachelor's degree, a minimum of four years of relevant experience is necessary. It is important to note that any work experience within the UN system should not exceed one year, which includes roles such as UN Volunteers, paid internships, and consultancies. All paid work experience since obtaining the Bachelor's degree will be considered relevant.

Languages:
Candidates must have an excellent command of English, as it is the primary working language of the ILO. Additionally, a working knowledge of a second language used by the ILO, such as French or Spanish, is desirable and considered an asset for this position.

Additional Notes:
The contract type for this position is Junior Professional Officer, with a duration of 12 months, renewable up to a maximum of 36 months. The position is specifically targeted at individuals with the nationality of eligible countries as defined by the Nedworc Foundation. The maximum age limit for applicants is 32 years as of December 31 of the application year. The JPO position includes a Duty Travel and Training Allowance (DTTA) of $4,000 per year, which can be utilized for learning activities related to the assignment and career development.
