Job Overview:
The position of Driver at IOM involves providing reliable and safe driving services to IOM officials and visitors. The role requires the driver to manage the day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, ensuring they are roadworthy and clean. The driver will also be tasked with finding the safest routes, maintaining logs of vehicle usage, and assisting with clerical duties when necessary. This position is crucial in supporting IOM's emergency operations in Syria, particularly in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis and the organization's efforts to assist vulnerable communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Driver include: driving assigned IOM vehicles, managing daily vehicle maintenance, ensuring roadworthiness, arranging for minor repairs, keeping vehicles clean, ensuring regular service intervals, maintaining records of spare parts, conducting monthly inventories, finding direct and safe routes, ensuring vehicles are used only for official business, preparing daily log sheets, summarizing monthly statistics related to mileage and fuel consumption, maintaining confidentiality in discussions, reducing potential security threats, facilitating immigration and customs formalities at airports, collecting and delivering mail and documents, and assisting field office staff with clerical duties as needed. The driver must also perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include a high school degree or certificate with a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. A valid national driver’s license is mandatory. Candidates should possess knowledge of driving rules and regulations, experience in driving various vehicle makes and models, skills in minor vehicle repairs, and familiarity with communication applications such as radio, email, and telephone.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for those holding a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the educational background meets international standards.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant driving experience, demonstrating knowledge of traffic laws and regulations. Experience in driving different types of vehicles and skills in performing minor vehicle repairs are essential. Familiarity with communication tools and applications is also required to ensure effective communication during operations.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Arabic is required for this position, encompassing both oral and written communication. Proficiency in additional languages such as French and Spanish is considered an asset, as IOM's official languages include these. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the necessary communication standards.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Syria will be considered. The appointment is contingent upon medical fitness certification, residency verification, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
