Job Overview: The Driver position within the UNDSS Gaza Office is a critical role that involves providing reliable and secure driving services to UN staff, consultants, and experts. The incumbent will be responsible for transporting authorized personnel safely and efficiently, ensuring that all driving regulations and safety protocols are strictly adhered to. This position not only requires a high level of responsibility and courtesy but also demands the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. The role is designed to support the operational needs of the UN in Gaza, contributing to the overall mission of the organization by facilitating safe transportation for staff engaged in vital humanitarian and development work.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will undertake a variety of essential functions, including: 1) Providing reliable and secure driving services using armored vehicles for UNDSS Gaza Office personnel, ensuring safe transport for UN officials and visitors. 2) Assisting in the logistical preparation of missions, including large VIP missions, and preparing mission reports to secure necessary security clearances. 3) Maintaining the assigned armored vehicle, ensuring proper use and day-to-day maintenance to promote cost-saving measures. This includes keeping accurate vehicle logs, performing minor repairs, and arranging for major maintenance services. 4) Ensuring that all required documents, supplies, and spare parts are available in the vehicle, including vehicle insurance and first aid kits. 5) Taking immediate actions required by rules and regulations in case of accidents and performing any other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a secondary education and a valid driver’s license. A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in client services with a safe driving record is required. Knowledge of driving regulations, rules, and laws, as well as skills in minor vehicle repair and maintenance, are essential. Additionally, familiarity with driving armored vehicles is considered an advantage. Candidates should also have experience with basic computer use and relevant office software packages, such as MS Word and Excel, and be able to utilize web-based management and electronic log systems.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is a secondary education level, complemented by a valid driver’s license. This foundational education is crucial for understanding the responsibilities associated with driving and vehicle management in a professional context.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience, particularly in client services, with a proven safe driving record. Experience working with international organizations or projects is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage in the selection process.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic is required, along with a working knowledge of the English language. These language skills are essential for effective communication within the diverse environment of the UN and for interacting with various stakeholders.
