Job Overview: The Social MediaIntern position at UNRIC involves working under the direct supervision of the Digital Communications Assistant or Desk Officer. The intern will assist in planning, creating, and curating content for social media channels, as well as monitoring various sources for relevant content about the UN. The role requires attending press conferences and events to gather multimedia content, editing videos, and drafting posts for platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. The intern will also be responsible for researching trends, engaging with followers, and compiling monthly performance reports for UNRIC’s social media accounts. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in digital communications within a prominent international organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Social Media Intern include:
Utilizing UNRIC Trello Boards for planning, creating, and curating social media content.
Collecting and collating multimedia information from various departments and organizations.
Monitoring sources for new content related to UN activities.
Assisting in editing and subtitling news videos for social media channels using software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Canva.
Creating visuals, quote cards, and other materials as requested.
Attending press conferences, meetings, and events to gather quotes, photos, and videos for social media posts.
Drafting posts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Researching trends and suggesting retweets/reposts from partners.
Monitoring social media accounts for comments and questions from followers. 1
Actively participating in live coverage of events in Brussels. 1
Assisting in drafting monthly reports on the performance of UNRIC’s social media accounts. 1
Carrying out other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant academic programme must be provided with the application.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. The educational background should be relevant to the internship role, particularly in fields related to communications, media, or international relations.
Experience: No prior professional work experience is required for this internship position. However, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship, particularly in social media management, communications, or related fields.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position. Additionally, fluency in one or more of the following languages is desirable: Danish, Dutch, French, Finnish, German, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish. Proficiency in these languages will enhance the intern's ability to engage with diverse audiences and contribute to the UNRIC's mission effectively.
