Job Overview: The position of Roster - Green Digital Transformation Consultant is designed to support the Climate Change and Emergency Telecommunications Division of ITU in implementing green digital transformation projects. The consultant will play a crucial role in advancing the organization's strategic plan for 2024-2027, particularly in relation to Target 2.5, which aims to enhance the role of ICT in climate and environmental action. This role involves working closely with ITU member states to track and monitor greenhouse gas emissions and energy use from the digital sector, providing capacity building and training to ensure effective implementation of these initiatives. The consultant will be responsible for developing digital net-zero transition plans, facilitating workshops, and conducting research to support the monitoring of digital companies' climate impacts. The position requires a proactive approach to engage with stakeholders and contribute to the overall goals of the BDT.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: organizing and facilitating workshops with stakeholders to enhance the capacity of ICT regulators and relevant national stakeholders in collecting and reporting environmental indicators; developing draft digital net-zero transition plans that align with national climate priorities; supporting the maintenance of a data visualization dashboard for tracking the digital sector's climate footprint; conducting national needs assessments to evaluate current data collection frameworks; conducting research on digital company greenhouse gas emissions and energy use; leading the preparation of technical content for online learning through the ITU Academy; supporting onboarding meetings for new project focal points; facilitating steering meetings among core project teams; participating in regular online meetings with project teams and government representatives; and preparing mission reports for any travel related to contract deliverables.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in environmental science, monitoring and assessment, or a related field such as environmental engineering. A diploma from a reputed college of advanced education that is equivalent to a university degree in one of the aforementioned fields is also acceptable. An advanced degree in a relevant field would be considered an advantage. Additionally, candidates should have advanced knowledge of climate data collection and reporting frameworks, including international standards for monitoring ICT sector greenhouse gas emissions and energy use. A good understanding of decarbonization strategies and best practices for net-zero transition planning is essential. The ability to design and facilitate capacity-building workshops and stakeholder consultations on environmental sustainability is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in environmental science, monitoring and assessment, or a related field such as environmental engineering. Candidates with a diploma from a reputed college of advanced education that is equivalent to a university degree in one of the fields mentioned above will also be considered. An advanced degree in a relevant field would be advantageous and may enhance a candidate's profile for this role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least seven years of progressively responsible experience specializing in climate change, sustainability, or ICT sector environmental impact assessment. This experience should include a minimum of three years at the international level. Proven experience in collaborating with stakeholders from local and national governments, as well as international entities, particularly in the areas of environment, climate change, telecommunications, and digital transformation, is essential. Experience in conducting research and producing technical reports on sustainability topics, especially related to ICT sector climate impacts and mitigation measures, is also required. A doctorate in a related field may be considered as a substitute for three years of working experience.
Languages: Knowledge of English at an advanced level is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of a second official language of the Union at an intermediate level would be advantageous. Depending on the location where the contract would apply, knowledge of local languages may also be beneficial and could enhance communication with stakeholders.

The remuneration for this position ranges between 185 USD and 360 USD per day, depending on the consultant's work experience.
