Job Overview:
The Project Communication Assistant will play a crucial role within the UNODC Firearms Trafficking Section, particularly in the context of the Global Firearms Programme initiated in 201
  • This position is designed to support the implementation of various project activities, ensuring effective communication and outreach. The assistant will be responsible for developing communication materials, managing media relations, and enhancing the visibility of the project. The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that the project’s advocacy and visibility strategies are effectively executed, thereby contributing to the overall mission of UNODC. The assistant will also engage in activities that promote volunteerism and community engagement, aligning with the UN Volunteers programme mandate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Communication Assistant will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: ensuring strategic media coverage of project-related activities; updating and implementing the programme’s advocacy and visibility strategy; supporting the planning and design of communication strategies; developing communication materials such as brochures, articles, and press releases; managing media relations and producing knowledge products; creating and editing content for dissemination through websites and social media; maintaining a photo library and media database; updating partner contact lists; and completing any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor. Additionally, the assistant is expected to contribute to the UN Volunteers programme by engaging with local communities and promoting voluntary action.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Project Communication Assistant position should possess a strong understanding of communication strategies and media relations, along with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment. The role demands excellent interpersonal skills, a commitment to ethical standards, and the ability to manage information confidentially. Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an international UN Volunteer assignment, which means that the Project Communication Assistant will need to arrange their own housing and living essentials in Vienna. The role is full-time, and the compensation includes a monthly living allowance, entry lump sum, family allowance, exit allowance, and medical and life insurance. Leave entitlements include annual leave, sick leave, learning leave, and maternity/paternity leave. The assistant will be expected to engage in activities that promote volunteerism and contribute to the UN's mission and values.
