Job Overview: The Partnership Officer will play a crucial role in developing and coordinating strategic partnerships that focus on collaboration and alliances within the climate finance sector. This position is embedded within the Secretariat’s Country and Partnerships Unit, which includes teams dedicated to Readiness, Accreditation, and Resource Mobilization and Partnerships. The officer will ensure that partnership activities are strategically aligned and operationally integrated across these functions, thereby supporting country engagement, resource mobilization, and program delivery. The role requires a proactive approach to building relationships with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector entities, to enhance the effectiveness of the Adaptation Fund's initiatives. The officer will report to the Countries and Partnership Unit Lead and the Head of the Fund, collaborating closely with team members to achieve the objectives of the Adaptation Fund.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Partnership Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
Designing the Adaptation Fund's partnership engagement and action plan, which involves conducting thorough partner risk-opportunity analyses and defining engagement strategies to position the Fund within the broader climate finance landscape.
Coordinating relationships with existing and prospective partners, maintaining detailed partner profiles, and utilizing tracking and assessment tools to monitor engagement.
Acting as the primary contact for inquiries from partners, facilitating dialogue, and ensuring tailored engagement protocols are followed.
Planning and coordinating senior management interactions with partners, preparing necessary materials such as briefs and talking points.
Supporting the advancement of core partnerships with key organizations such as the UNFCCC and various climate funds, while mapping and promoting joint initiatives with academic institutions, international financial institutions, UN agencies, and the private sector.
Producing partner briefings and reports, fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration among teams, and developing category-specific dashboards to track partner performance.
Performing additional duties as required to meet the objectives of the role.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in public policy, international development, finance, economics, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of seven years of experience in managing external relations and partnerships, particularly in the context of climate adaptation, is required. A strong understanding of the Adaptation Fund's mission, strategy, operations, policies, and procedures is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate superior analytical skills and have a good grasp of climate international finance and the Fund's position within that context. Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including NGOs, the private sector, and government agencies, is crucial, as is the ability to communicate effectively with clients at all levels in a multicultural environment.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as public policy, international development, finance, or economics. This advanced degree is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to navigate the complexities of climate finance and partnership management.
Experience: The position requires at least seven years of relevant work experience, particularly in managing external relations and partnerships. This experience should ideally include a focus on climate adaptation and an understanding of the dynamics within the climate finance sector. Candidates should have a proven track record of engaging with a variety of stakeholders, including governmental and non-governmental organizations, to foster collaboration and resource mobilization.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the World Bank. Proficiency in another official World Bank language, such as French, is considered a valuable asset and would enhance the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of partners and stakeholders.
