Job Overview:
The Shelter Assistant position is crucial for the daily operations of the accommodation centers for unaccompanied migrant children (UMC) in Patra, Greece. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Shelter Coordinator and the Project Coordinator, ensuring that the needs of the children are met in a safe and supportive environment. This role involves direct interaction with the UMCs, assisting them with daily activities, and ensuring their well-being. The Shelter Assistant will also collaborate with social workers to implement individualized care plans and provide guidance on personal hygiene and cleanliness. The position requires a proactive approach to maintaining the shelter's operations and ensuring that all necessary materials and supplies are adequately managed. The Shelter Assistant will play a vital role in creating a nurturing environment that promotes the children's development and integration into society.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Shelter Assistant include:
  • Assisting in the daily operations of the shelter, following the instructions of the Shelter Coordinator.
  • Implementing individual daily programs for UMCs in collaboration with social workers.
  • Escorting children to medical and social services as needed.
  • Providing guidance on personal hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Monitoring and updating the inventory of necessary materials and supplies.
  • Ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of the children during 24-hour shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Maintaining records of entry and exit for minors and visitors.
  • Handling crisis situations effectively and notifying appropriate staff.

  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the Shelter Coordinator.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school degree from Greece or equivalent foreign education. Experience or training in child protection, particularly with unaccompanied minors, is essential. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and refugees, especially children, is highly desirable. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred, along with a valid driver's license and a minimum of five years of driving experience. Candidates should demonstrate cultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, as well as a willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates who have attended accredited foreign schools will also be considered, provided their qualifications are recognized by the relevant authorities. Accreditation must be verified through the UNESCO World Higher Education Database to ensure that the educational institution meets international standards.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have experience or training relevant to child protection and the management of vulnerable populations, particularly unaccompanied minors. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred, and candidates should have a positive record of working with diverse populations. Languages:
