Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at OSAA is designed to provide support in various functions related to course moderation, activity submission review, and documentation and reporting. The intern will report directly to the Head of Office and will be involved in monitoring course participant queries, assisting in the identification of technical issues, and providing administrative support for participant inquiries. The role also includes reviewing participant submissions against established analytical frameworks, evaluating activity responses, and organizing contributions for review. Additionally, the intern will assist in preparing summaries of participant engagement patterns and documenting moderation activities, contributing to the improvement of moderation processes and participant guidance materials. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a variety of responsibilities, including:
General Course Moderation: - Monitoring course participant queries and discussion forums. - Identifying and flagging technical issues for action by the UNSCC technical team. - Flagging substantive policy or content questions requiring OSAA input. - Providing administrative support in coordinating responses to participant inquiries.
Activity Submission Review: - Reviewing and assessing participant submissions against established analytical frameworks and course criteria. - Evaluating activity responses for quality and alignment with course objectives. - Organizing and categorizing participant contributions for review.
Documentation and Reporting Support: - Preparing summaries of participant engagement patterns and common themes. - Documenting moderation activities and identified issues. - Providing technical input for improving moderation processes and participant guidance materials.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship type is necessary. Familiarity with online course moderation platforms and experience applying analytical frameworks to policy design are also beneficial.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a graduate degree or be in the final year of their undergraduate studies, with a focus on fields related to international relations, development studies, public policy, or similar areas that align with the responsibilities of the internship.
Experience: While prior professional work experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that demonstrates their understanding of the issues related to Africa's development and the workings of international organizations.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is desirable, and familiarity with another official United Nations language is considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: This internship is designed to be in-person and full-time, requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week, although adjustments can be made based on the successful candidate's requests. The expected duration of the internship is six months. It is important to note that interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and all costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Additionally, interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
