Job Overview: The Senior Social Development Specialist position at the World Bank Group is a critical role aimed at implementing environmental and social risk management policies and standards. Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Social Development Specialist will have a wide range of responsibilities, including advising World Bank Task Teams on social risk management, ensuring the integration of social due diligence into project designs, preparing internal documents such as Environmental and Social Review Summaries and Project Appraisal Documents, reviewing client-developed terms of reference for social assessments, mentoring clients on social risk management instruments, and participating in portfolio reviews. The specialist will also contribute to capacity building among colleagues and counterparts, support analytical tasks on social inclusion, and engage with various stakeholders to promote social development and risk management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in social sciences or a related field, along with a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability and environmental and social risk management. Familiarity with the World Bank's ESF and social safeguard policies is essential, as is experience in managing social risks related to infrastructure and development projects. Strong analytical skills, project management capabilities, and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders are also required.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in social sciences, such as Development Studies, Social Anthropology, Sociology, International Development, or Environmental Sciences, is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to address complex social issues and implement effective risk management strategies.
Experience: The position requires at least 8 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability and environmental and social risk management. Candidates should have hands-on experience in delivering analytical and operational products, particularly within the context of World Bank-financed operations or comparable multilateral development banks. Experience in managing social risks in sectors such as infrastructure, extractives, and agribusiness is highly beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in both Portuguese and English is mandatory for this position, as the role involves extensive communication with stakeholders in Brazil and the international community. Proficiency in additional languages would be considered an asset but is not required.
