Job Overview: The UN Volunteer - Data CollectionTeam Leader will play a pivotal role in overseeing data collection activities related to the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) in collaboration with the Presidency of Migration Management (PMM). This position requires the individual to report directly to IOM and work under the supervision of IOM’s Senior Project Associate and Field Coordinator. The Team Leader will be responsible for ensuring that enumerators adhere to data collection protocols and schedules, assigning locations to enumerators, and monitoring their progress. The role involves conducting both quantitative and qualitative interviews in the field with individuals from host and migrant communities, thereby contributing to the systematic and humane management of migration. The Team Leader will also provide real-time feedback and guidance to enumerators on data quality issues, conduct field visits with Project Associates, and maintain communication with community members and local authorities to facilitate access to the field.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the UN Volunteer - Data Collection Team Leader include: overseeing the daily activities of enumerators to ensure compliance with data collection protocols; assigning specific locations to enumerators and monitoring their progress; conducting quantitative and qualitative interviews in the field with individuals from both host and migrant communities; supervising and being accountable for the data collection process performed by enumerators throughout the designated province; providing real-time feedback and guidance to enumerators regarding data quality issues; conducting field visits alongside Project Associates; utilizing established mobile data collection tools; submitting daily updates on progress, challenges, and observations; maintaining liaison with community members and local authorities to ensure access to the field and coordination; and performing any other duties assigned by the direct supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the UN Volunteer - Data Collection Team Leader position should possess strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage a team effectively. They should demonstrate a commitment to the principles of inclusion, respect for diversity, integrity, and professionalism. The ideal candidate will have experience in data collection and analysis, as well as familiarity with mobile data collection tools. Strong communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required for this position, typically including a degree in social sciences, international relations, or a related field. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in migration studies, data analysis, or project management will be preferred.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have prior experience in data collection, project management, or a related field. Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly in migration contexts, is highly desirable. Candidates should also have a proven track record of effectively managing teams and coordinating activities in the field.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Turkish is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the migrant communities in the area would be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer assignment, not employment. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The monthly living allowance is USD 968, paid in Turkish Lira, along with private insurance coverage for health, dental, life, and dismemberment. An entry allowance of USD 10 will also be provided. It is important to note that the allowances are not to be understood as a salary or compensation for volunteer work.
