Job Overview: The Field Coordinator will oversee the management of projects in Ulang, focusing on emergency and early recoveryWASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programming and emergency security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) support. This role includes acting as the delegated director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director for the region, proposing and implementing a regional strategy aligned with the geopolitical and humanitarian context. The Field Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that projects adhere to the Solidarités International charter and all internal and contractual procedures. This position requires mobilizing necessary resources for program operations, supervising resource management, and ensuring the security of the teams in the assigned area. The Field Coordinator will also engage with local authorities, communities, NGOs, and UN agencies to foster a coordinated approach in areas where SI operates, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in South Sudan.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Coordinator's duties include:
Managing the project in Ulang, ensuring effective implementation of emergency WASH and FSL activities.
Acting as the delegated Country Director for the region, proposing and executing a regional strategy.
Ensuring compliance with the Solidarités International charter and internal procedures.
Supervising resource management and ensuring the security of the teams.
Leading the establishment of a new SI base in the Ulang corridor and initiating activities.
Engaging with local authorities, communities, and stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach.
Conducting security and access assessments in volatile areas.
Setting up basic mechanisms for community engagement and stakeholder collaboration. 1
Developing a short-term strategy for the base and overseeing the kick-off of activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in humanitarian/development studies, social sciences, management, or a related discipline. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector is required, with at least 3-4 years in a similar position. Candidates should demonstrate strong team management and mentoring skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines, and good representational skills to liaise with INGOs, authorities, and donors. A solid understanding of security management and humanitarian issues, including IDPs and camp management, is essential. Candidates must also be able to write and edit quality reports in English.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as humanitarian/development studies, social sciences, or management. This advanced degree is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the management of projects in challenging environments.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 3-4 years in a similar role. This experience should include managing projects in emergency contexts and working in challenging environments, particularly in conflict-affected areas.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a short-term contract position with a duration of 3 months, based in Ulang, South Sudan. The role involves significant challenges, including security concerns and logistical issues due to the ongoing conflict. The position offers a competitive salary starting from EUR 2800 gross per month, along with a monthly per diem of USD 70
Accommodation costs and travel expenses are covered by SI. Expatriates will benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations. Living conditions in Ulang are expected to be basic, with accommodation likely in other NGOs' compounds. The candidate should be prepared for remote living conditions with limited comfort and amenities.
