Job Overview:
This internship is situated within the Treasury of the Office of Program Planning Finance and Budget (OPPFB) under the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). It is designed for graduate students who are looking to gain professional experience in an international organization while supplementing their academic studies. The internship provides a practical educational experience in a multicultural and intergovernmental setting. Interns will work under the guidance of a Senior Finance and Budget Officer, engaging in projects that align with their educational background and interests. This role allows interns to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world context, enhancing their skills and understanding of treasury operations within the UN framework. The internship lasts for a maximum of six months and can be conducted either remotely or in-person, with interns expected to work up to five days a week, totaling 35 hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be involved in various tasks that support the Treasury Risk and Compliance Section. Their responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting in the development of treasury compliance activities.
  • Supporting the implementation of the United Nations debit card program.
  • Collecting, organizing, and analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data. Specific tasks may involve: • Taking notes and minutes during meetings. • Obtaining and filing documents and internal data from UN Secretariat entities in various formats such as Excel, PowerBI, Microsoft Word, and PDF. • Conducting qualitative, statistical, and quantitative analyses of the collected data. • Developing dashboards that include data cleaning, coding, and recoding. • Visualizing data using MS Excel and Power BI. This role is crucial for the intern's professional development and provides a comprehensive understanding of treasury functions within the UN.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, applicants must have a field of study closely related to the internship they are applying for. Additionally, applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme. Proof of eligibility must be attached to the application, and an official certificate will be required later in the process.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or being in the final year of a bachelor’s degree program. This ensures that candidates possess the necessary academic foundation to engage in the tasks and responsibilities associated with the internship effectively. This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. For in-person internships in the United States, non-citizens or permanent residents must obtain a G-4 visa for full-time internships.
