Job Overview:
The Head of AI Hub Programmes will play a pivotal role in leading the implementation of the AI Hub for Sustainable Development programmes. This position requires managing a team of technical experts to design, deliver, and measure the impact of the AI Hub’s initiatives. The incumbent will be responsible for developing demand-driven catalytic programmes in collaboration with partners across the G7, Africa, and relevant authorities in 14 partner countries. The role involves ensuring coherence with global AI initiatives and contributing to UNDP's strategic objectives in AI and digital development. The Head of AI Hub Programmes will also be tasked with fostering partnerships, managing resources, and advocating for AI development in various forums, thereby positioning the AI Hub as a thought leader in the field.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the execution of AI Hub for Sustainable Development Programmes, ensuring successful delivery of the Hub’s vision and objectives.
  • Build processes and methodologies for scalable implementation in partnership with G7 and African authorities.
  • Support country offices with AI initiatives, focusing on integrating AI solutions to enhance national development priorities.
  • Collaborate with the AI Hub leadership team to develop cohesive proposals and projects.
  • Develop and execute AI Hub programme priorities, establishing processes for sourcing and implementing new AI ideas.
  • Design innovative approaches for connecting stakeholders to harness AI opportunities.
  • Manage programme and budget resources, ensuring timely reporting and financial sustainability.
  • Advocate for AI development through campaigns and stakeholder events, contributing to global discussions on AI for development.
  • Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as Design, Business Administration, Engineering, or Information Technology management. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in AI, digital transformation, or sustainable development is required, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role. Proven track record in leading multi-stakeholder initiatives and partnerships in the global development sector is essential, along with a deep understanding of AI infrastructure and applications.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in fields such as Design, Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology management, or Education. Candidates with a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in these areas, along with two additional years of qualifying experience, may also be considered. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of AI and digital transformation in the context of sustainable development.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in AI, digital transformation, or sustainable development for candidates with a master’s degree, or 12 years for those with a bachelor’s degree. At least 3 years of this experience must be in a senior leadership role, demonstrating the ability to lead impactful initiatives and manage complex projects effectively. Candidates should have a proven track record of building strategic partnerships and influencing global policy in the context of AI and digital development.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of another official UN language or a local language from partner countries is considered advantageous. This linguistic capability is important for effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders across different regions.

This position is classified under Tier 1, which includes UNDP/UNCDF/UNV staff holding permanent and fixed-term appointments. The role is full-time and based in Rome, Italy.
