Job Overview:
The Assistant Technical Officer, Nutrition - CMAM position is crucial in addressing the severe acute malnutrition (SAM) crisis in Northeast Nigeria, particularly in Borno State. The role involves providing treatment and rehabilitation for children suffering from SAM, ensuring they receive therapeutic feeds and necessary medical care. The officer will also be responsible for health and nutrition counseling, capacity building of Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) assistants, and overseeing community outreach activities. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying malnutrition cases and ensuring timely referrals to stabilization centers. The officer will play a key role in data collection and reporting, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the nutrition program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Technical Officer include leading community outreach activities, conducting mid-upper arm circumference screenings, and providing outpatient therapeutic program (OTP) services in target communities and IDP camps. The officer will conduct defaulter tracing, follow-up visits, and deliver key messages at OTP sites. They will oversee the identification of complications and ensure appropriate referrals to stabilization centers. Additionally, the officer will develop CMAM work plans, monitor malnutrition trends, and support the M&E unit during assessments. Responsibilities also include ensuring proper documentation of services, managing SAM children with complications, conducting health checks, and preparing therapeutic feeds. The officer will compile statistical data and draft reports on program activities, supporting nutrition surveys at the local government area (LGA) level. Other related tasks may be assigned as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a B.Sc in Nursing with 1-3 years of post-NYSC experience or an MBBS with at least 1 year of post-NYSC experience. Previous experience working with a humanitarian organization is desirable. The role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to prepare program reports. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in challenging working conditions, particularly in remote areas.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or a Medical Degree (MBBS). Candidates should have completed their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program and have relevant experience in clinical settings or humanitarian work.

Experience:
The position requires 1-3 years of relevant experience post-NYSC for nursing graduates or at least 1 year for medical graduates. Experience in a humanitarian context is highly desirable, as it equips candidates with the necessary skills to handle the complexities of working in emergency situations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in local languages is highly desirable. Excellent spoken and written communication skills are essential for effective interaction with beneficiaries and team members.
