Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico City is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs). Established to promote public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations, UNIC Mexico City serves as the principal source of information about the UN system in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. The organization engages local and regional partners to communicate the work of the UN to local audiences in their languages, thereby bringing the United Nations closer to the peoples it serves. The UNIC is also responsible for leading the communications and advocacy functions of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and the Resident Coordination Office (RCO).

Job Overview:

The intern will work under the direct supervision of the UNIC’s Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO). This unpaid internship requires the intern to commit to full-time working hours, totaling 35 hours per week, for a maximum duration of 6 months. The intern will be involved in various tasks that include assisting with research, media outreach, drafting communications products, and engaging with a diverse range of publics. The role also encompasses updating the UNIC Mexico's website, contributing to multimedia content production, and supporting strategic communication efforts across Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The intern will have the opportunity to collaborate with civil society, academia, and NGOs, and will assist in organizing events related to UN issues. This position is ideal for those looking to gain hands-on experience in international communications and advocacy within a prestigious global organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to: supporting the communications activities of UNIC Mexico; assisting with research and media outreach; drafting communications products; engaging with local and regional partners; updating the UNIC Mexico website; producing multimedia assets for web and social media; drafting and editing content in Spanish and other languages; applying programming skills to develop AR or VR products; utilizing Boolean queries and media/social media listening tools; liaising with civil society, academia, and NGOs in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic; preparing for events; collaborating with the public and private sectors on UN-related activities; promoting UN education and youth participation; and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, the applicant's training, education, advanced coursework, or skills should be relevant and beneficial to the United Nations during the internship. Proof of meeting the criteria must be attached to the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent. This educational background ensures that the intern possesses the necessary academic foundation to contribute effectively to the UNIC's communications efforts.

Experience:
No prior working experience is required for this internship position. The United Nations encourages applicants who are in the process of completing their academic qualifications, as the internship is designed to provide practical experience that complements their educational background.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in English is desirable, which would enhance the intern's ability to communicate effectively within the UN system and with international partners.
