Job Overview: The role of the Online Volunteer Translator is crucial in facilitating the implementation of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY 2026) in Latin America and the Caribbean. This position involves translating essential materials such as documents and PowerPoint presentations from English to Portuguese and vice versa. The successful candidate will contribute to the UNV's mission by ensuring that communication materials are accessible in multiple languages, thereby supporting Member States and stakeholders in the region. Duties and Responsibilities:
Translate a 24-page communications guide from English to Portuguese, ensuring accuracy and clarity in the translation.
Collaborate with the UNV Secretariat to understand the context and nuances of the materials being translated.
Review and edit translations to maintain high-quality standards.
Provide feedback on the translation process and suggest improvements where necessary.
Ensure timely delivery of translated materials to meet project deadlines.
Participate in virtual meetings with the UNV team to discuss progress and address any challenges encountered during the translation process.
Required Qualifications:
Proficiency in English and Portuguese, with excellent written communication skills in both languages.
Experience in translation, particularly in the context of development or volunteerism, is highly desirable.
Familiarity with UN terminology and concepts related to sustainable development is an advantage.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Good organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
