Job Overview:

The intern will be involved in research and analysis, communications and outreach, and coordination of knowledge support activities. The intern will conduct desk research, synthesize information from various sources, support data collection and analysis, and help develop communication materials that promote governance and civic engagement. Additionally, the intern will participate in team meetings and contribute to strategic discussions, making this a dynamic and engaging opportunity for those interested in international development and public policy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Research and Analysis (40%): Conducting desk research on topics such as civic space, public participation, information integrity, and digital governance. Reviewing and synthesizing information from policy documents and project reports, and supporting data collection and analysis for monitoring and learning purposes.
  • Communications and Outreach (25%): Assisting in the development of outreach and advocacy materials, including presentations, briefs, reports, and visual content. Drafting and editing communication content for newsletters, blogs, and social media platforms related to governance and inclusive civic space.
  • Coordination and Knowledge Support (25%): Providing logistical and administrative support for meetings, workshops, and capacity-building activities. Maintaining and updating knowledge management systems, including repositories of research and communication materials.
  • Other (10%): Participating in team meetings and contributing ideas to strategy and content development, as well as performing other tasks as needed to support the implementation of initiatives aimed at promoting an open and inclusive public sphere.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements: currently in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree, currently enrolled in a Master’s degree, or have graduated no longer than one year from a bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent studies. The field of study should be in International Development, Political Science, Sociology, Law, Communication, Journalism, or other related fields in Social Sciences or Humanities. Additionally, candidates should possess strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and basic design tools like Canva, as well as familiarity with data management tools such as spreadsheets or Airtable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program or currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program. Alternatively, candidates who have graduated within the last year from a bachelor’s or master’s degree in relevant fields such as International Development, Political Science, Sociology, Law, Communication, Journalism, or other related areas in Social Sciences or Humanities are also eligible to apply. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of governance and civic engagement.

Experience:
The internship position does not require extensive prior experience, but candidates should demonstrate a strong interest and motivation to work in an international organization, particularly in programs that support youth, entrepreneurship, climate action, and inclusive development. Previous internships or volunteer experiences in related fields may be beneficial but are not mandatory. The focus is on candidates who are eager to learn and contribute to UNDP's mission.

Languages:
A strong command of English, both written and oral, is required for this position. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered an advantage, as it may enhance communication and outreach efforts within diverse contexts and with various stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, but UNDP will provide a monthly stipend of THB 8,302.50 in accordance with its internship policy. Interns are responsible for covering all other expenses related to the internship, including travel, accommodation, and health insurance. They must also obtain necessary visas and are expected to work full-time, although some flexibility is allowed for educational commitments. Interns are not eligible to apply for or be appointed to any post in UNDP during the internship period and must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan. Furthermore, UNDP maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and misconduct, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all personnel.
