Job Overview: The Information Management Associate position is crucial for supporting the production and dissemination of information regarding populations of concern, including protection and program information. The incumbent will operationalize data standards developed at the central level within field operations, compile and explore data from various populations, and assist the Programme Team and UNHCR's implementing partners in selecting indicators for monitoring. This role requires a reliable and adaptable data-focused professional who can manage multiple data tasks in a fast-paced operational environment. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain high-quality work standards while adjusting to shifting priorities, demonstrating strong foundational skills in data management, and being proficient in Microsoft Excel for data cleaning, validation, analysis, and basic automation. Familiarity with survey tools such as Kobo and experience in information management, particularly in the humanitarian sector, will be advantageous. The role also involves effective communication and collaboration, especially with non-technical colleagues, and a commitment to data quality and documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Information Management Associate include operationalizing country-specific common data standards and promoting them with partners, including UNHCR data standards and the IASC Common Operational Datasets. The incumbent will compile and aggregate information elements necessary for producing standardized information products and implement data/information collection plans for baseline and context-specific data. Responsibilities also include collecting, collating, and processing information while performing data quality and consistency control, producing summary statistics, and supporting the coordination of data collection teams. The associate will leverage geographic data for map production and use in geographic information systems (GIS), share UNHCR data with partner agencies, and maintain Portal data and information in line with agreed frequencies. Participation in Needs Assessment processes, specifically in data collection, processing/collation, and data exploration, is also expected. The associate will liaise with partners, represent UNHCR in relevant meetings, make recommendations on technical information management requirements, and support the identification and management of risks while ensuring decision-making is risk-based. Additional duties may be assigned as required.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or two years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education. Essential qualifications include experience with handling confidential data and a demonstrated understanding of various data collection methodologies. Desirable qualifications include experience in web design and software development, as well as the ability to formulate information management-related technical requirements and operating procedures. Functional skills required for this position include proficiency in ArcGIS (Geographic Information System), statistical analysis, and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma for candidates with three years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree or higher for those with two years of relevant experience. While specific fields of education are not mandated, certificates in Information Technology, Statistics, or Social Sciences are considered beneficial. Certifications related to operational data management are also advantageous.
