Job Overview: The IT Department (ITD) of the IMF is offering multiple internship opportunities for graduate students who are currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in information technology or a related field. This internship is a full-time, paid position based at the IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C., and is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in the field of information technology within a prestigious international financial institution. The internship will last for a period of three months, from June to August 2026, during which interns will have the opportunity to learn about and contribute to various IT initiatives and projects. Interns will be involved in the Economic Data Lifecycle Engineering (ITDDEEL) Section, which focuses on data engineering activities such as data collection, transformation, dissemination, and visualization. The selected candidates will gain exposure to different aspects of data engineering and will work on ongoing projects, gaining practical experience with emerging technologies used by the data engineering team.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for several key duties and responsibilities during their internship, including:
Documenting existing ETL/ELT pipelines by creating lineage diagrams that illustrate data flow from sources to transformations and targets.
Defining basic data quality rules, such as identifying nulls, ranges, and duplicates, and visualizing any failures in logs or dashboards.
Inventorying tables, schemas, and key fields, writing business-friendly descriptions, and identifying ownership and refresh frequency for metadata and schema cataloging. These responsibilities will provide interns with valuable experience in data engineering and enhance their understanding of IT operations within the IMF.
