Job Overview: The Regional Consultant position is crucial for the successful implementation of sustainability initiatives in Ecuador and Peru. The consultant will play a key role in facilitating the sharing of experiences and best practices among countries in the region, particularly through the Latin American Partnership for the promotion of sustainability reporting (ARL). The consultant's work will involve a combination of national and regional activities aimed at strengthening sustainability reporting infrastructures and promoting investment aligned with the SDGs. The consultant will be responsible for conducting assessments, organizing workshops, providing policy advice, and developing action plans to enhance the sustainability reporting ecosystem in the beneficiary countries. This role requires a deep understanding of sustainability reporting standards and practices, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including government entities, industry associations, and financial institutions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Finalizing the ADT assessment exercise, which involves collecting data from stakeholders, preparing summary reports, and identifying gaps in sustainability reporting.
Organizing national workshops to validate findings from the assessments and facilitate discussions on policy recommendations.
Providing policy advice and developing action plans based on assessment results, including organizing working groups for implementation.
Conducting virtual capacity-building workshops for public sector stakeholders on sustainability reporting.
Strengthening the Latin American Partnership for sustainability reporting by mobilizing stakeholders and enhancing the online platform.
Sharing key findings and lessons learned with ARL members and preparing reports summarizing these insights.
Contributing to the organization of a hybrid forum to discuss common challenges and propose solutions in sustainability reporting.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's) in accounting, sustainability reporting, economics, finance, business administration, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of work experience in accounting, corporate reporting, sustainability reporting, auditing, finance, or a related field. Specific knowledge of the financial and sustainability reporting infrastructure in Latin America, as well as familiarity with UNCTAD's accounting and sustainability reporting tools, is highly advantageous.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree (Master's) in a relevant field such as accounting, sustainability reporting, economics, finance, or business administration. Alternatively, a first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by qualifying experience. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of sustainability reporting and the associated regulatory frameworks.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in areas such as accounting, corporate reporting, sustainability reporting, auditing, or finance. Experience in the Latin American context, particularly regarding sustainability reporting policies and frameworks, is considered an asset. Familiarity with UNCTAD's tools and methodologies for sustainability reporting will also be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in both written and spoken Spanish and English is required for this position. This bilingual proficiency is essential for effective communication with stakeholders in the beneficiary countries and for the preparation of reports and documentation in both languages.
