Job Overview:
The Project Portfolio Intern position within the Information Technology Department (ITD) at the IMF offers a unique opportunity for graduate students to gain hands-on experience in IT project management within a leading international financial institution. The internship is designed for students who are currently enrolled in a master’s degree program in information technology or a related field. The intern will work closely with the PMO team to support the delivery of the IT Capital Portfolio, Programs, and Projects, which are essential to achieving the IMF's strategic goals. This role will involve tracking project deliverables, coordinating risks and issues, and assisting in the development of project management processes and standards. The internship is a full-time, paid position based at the IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C., and will last for a period of three months, from June to August 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the PMO team in overseeing the IT Capital Portfolio. Key responsibilities include tracking project and program deliverables and milestones, promoting the adoption of project lifecycle methodologies, coordinating project-level risks and issues, and reporting on project performance against budget, schedule, and scope. The intern will assist in defining and updating project management processes and standards, facilitating quality reviews, and ensuring adherence to governance standards. Additionally, the intern will support Project Managers in consolidating project materials for monthly reports, monitoring projects against time, budget, and quality standards, and providing management support on projects. The intern will also assist with PMO training sessions, support the PMO practice team with portfolio reporting and analysis, and work with AI developers to deploy AI use cases that streamline portfolio management operations.

Required Qualifications:
To be eligible for the internship, candidates must be enrolled in a Master’s degree program in a relevant field such as information technology, data science, or business administration. Candidates must maintain student status during the internship and be in good academic standing. A strong command of English, both written and oral, is essential, as is an interest in working in a multicultural environment. Candidates should demonstrate an aptitude for project management and a willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic setting.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in a relevant field, such as information technology, computer science, information systems management, data science, or business administration. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in IT principles and practices, as well as an understanding of project management methodologies.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not explicitly required, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or internships that showcase their interest and aptitude for project management and IT.
