Job Overview:
The Information Systems Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the ASYCUDA Programme by providing technical assistance in the development and maintenance of computer information systems, databases, and applications. The incumbent will be involved in troubleshooting complex issues, developing new application systems, and ensuring that existing systems operate efficiently. This position requires a blend of technical skills, including programming, systems analysis, and project management, to enhance the functionality of customs data systems. The assistant will also be responsible for managing documentation, conducting user training, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure that the systems meet user needs and comply with UN standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Information Systems Assistant include providing support for computer information systems and applications, performing troubleshooting, participating in the development and implementation of new systems, designing and developing applications, installing software and hardware, monitoring systems, managing technical documentation, assisting in the development of operational procedures, leading projects, conducting feasibility studies, and providing guidance and training to junior staff. The assistant will also be involved in data collection and analysis, preparing presentations and reports, and performing other related duties as required. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively with various teams.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A first-level university degree or higher is preferred and can reduce the required work experience. The position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in information systems analysis, programming, systems administration, or related fields. Candidates with a university degree may qualify with 8 years of experience. Experience in data analytics and working in an automated customs environment is desirable, as is experience with UN technical cooperation programmes. Strong analytical and technical writing skills are essential for this role.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. However, candidates with a first-level university degree or higher are preferred, as this can reduce the required years of experience. The educational background should ideally include coursework or training in information technology, computer science, or a related field that supports the technical demands of the position.

Experience:
The role requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in information systems analysis, programming, systems administration, or software development. This requirement is reduced to 8 years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Additionally, at least one year of experience in data analytics or a related area is desirable. Experience in an automated customs environment and supporting UN or similar international organizations is also preferred, highlighting the need for familiarity with international standards and practices in technology and trade.

Languages:
The working languages of the United Nations are English and French. For this position, proficiency in English and Fijian is required. The UN Language Framework specifies that candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in these languages, with English requiring a level III proficiency and Fijian a level I proficiency. This linguistic capability is essential for effective communication within the organization and with stakeholders.

This position is a project-funded temporary role, initially available for 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on project continuation, availability of funds, and satisfactory performance.
