Job Overview: The Respectful Workplace Intern position at UNDP offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain hands-on experience in promoting a respectful workplace culture. The intern will work under the supervision of the HR Analyst for Respectful Workplace and the HR Specialist for Equal Opportunities. The primary focus of this internship is to ensure that employee-facing resources are accessible and user-friendly, particularly in relation to the Speak Up culture programme. The intern will be responsible for reviewing existing content, coordinating translations, and applying digital accessibility principles to enhance user experience across various platforms. This role requires strong coordination skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to research and problem-solving. The internship is full-time for a duration of three months, providing an excellent platform for learning and professional development in the field of human resources and workplace inclusivity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a variety of duties and responsibilities, including:
Content Review and Accessibility Editing: Reviewing materials related to the Speak Up Culture experience to ensure they meet accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG). Conducting thorough reviews of equal opportunity materials, particularly those on the disability inclusion micro-site, to ensure they are user-oriented and accessible. Providing support for new resources and ad-hoc presentations, webinars, etc.
Translation and Language Coordination: Assisting in the translation of Speak Up Culture experience guides, handouts, and video scripts. Redesigning translated materials using Canva and ensuring consistent formatting. Tracking translation and content review timelines and deliverables, and maintaining a shared site for all translated documents.
Internal Engagement and Communications: Creating infographics, visual assets, and other communication materials to support internal messaging. Drafting and publishing posts on inclusion, equal opportunities, and Speak Up Culture on internal communication channels. Editing and updating SharePoint pages to ensure content is organized and accessible in various formats. Assisting with communications tasks as needed and providing flexible support for high-priority initiatives.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Respectful Workplace Intern position should possess the following qualifications:
Education: Applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent) in Communications, Linguistics, Media Studies, Education, or a related field. b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level) in the same fields. c) Have graduated with a university degree in the aforementioned fields and must start the internship within one year of graduation.
Experience: While prior work experience is not required, experience with translation, translation coordination, and digital accessibility is desired. Experience in project coordination would be an advantage.
Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required, while fluency in French is highly desirable. Knowledge of other UN languages would be an asset.
Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to coordinate and manage translation workflows, organizational and project coordination skills, basic understanding of accessibility standards, attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and design/media skills including proficiency in tools like Canva or Adobe InDesign.
