Job Overview:
The Sustainability Lead Specialist will play a crucial role in leading WWF's internal sustainability initiatives, particularly focusing on the annual greenhouse gas (GHG) data collection process and the development of WWF's GHG inventory. This position is pivotal in advancing WWF's commitment to sustainability and achieving net-zero emissions by 205
  • The specialist will work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainable practices into all aspects of the organization's operations. The role requires a strategic mindset to identify and implement actions that lead to the reduction of GHG emissions, ensuring that sustainability is embedded in the organizational culture and operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Sustainability Lead Specialist include leading the development and implementation of comprehensive GHG inventory management strategies for WWF-US's 14 US-based and global offices. This involves data collection, analysis, and reporting to track and reduce the organization's carbon footprint in alignment with sustainability goals and the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). The specialist will foster collaboration with internal stakeholders across departments and external partners, including suppliers and governmental bodies, to identify and execute decarbonization strategies. Additionally, the role includes providing leadership and oversight to WWF's Green Team, guiding team members in driving sustainability initiatives, and managing activities to recommend and implement best practices. The specialist will also collaborate with the procurement team to enhance the sustainability of the supply chain, support network reporting requirements for annual carbon emissions, and work with Global Science and Goal teams to estimate climate mitigation benefits. Furthermore, the role involves identifying sustainability risks and opportunities, developing training programs to increase employee engagement in sustainability efforts, and supporting LEED certification renewals for WWF's headquarters.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental/Climate Science, or a related field, along with a minimum of 8 years of experience in corporate sustainability. An advanced degree is preferred. Demonstrated expertise in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounting, including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, is essential, as is proven experience in developing and implementing sustainability strategies in an NGO or corporate setting. Proficiency in applying emissions factors from recognized sources to calculate and analyze organizational carbon footprints is required, along with excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for effectively engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental/Climate Science, or a related field. Candidates with an advanced degree in these areas will be preferred, as it demonstrates a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in sustainability and environmental issues.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 8 years of experience in corporate sustainability or a related field. Candidates should have a proven track record of developing and implementing sustainability strategies, particularly in an NGO or corporate environment. Experience in greenhouse gas emissions accounting and familiarity with sustainability reporting standards are also critical.

Languages:
Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish is required to support communication with diverse stakeholders. This language skill is essential for engaging with various partners and ensuring effective collaboration across different regions and cultures. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The position is a limited-term role lasting for 2 years and is based in Washington, D.C., with a hybrid work structure requiring a minimum of 2 days a week in the office. The salary range for this position is between $107,500 and $154,60
