Job Overview: The INGO Durable Solutions Coordinator will play a pivotal role in strengthening coordination among International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) in Sudan, particularly in relation to durable solutions for displaced populations. This position is crucial for ensuring that the voices of INGOs are represented in policy discussions and that their experiences inform the development of strategies aimed at addressing displacement. The coordinator will work closely with various stakeholders, including the UN, local authorities, and other INGOs, to promote an area-based and community-supported approach to building resilience and supporting solutions to displacement. The role involves significant engagement in policy development, coordination of discussions, and representation of INGO perspectives in various forums.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute to the development of durable solutions policies at national, state, and local levels, ensuring that INGO perspectives are included in discussions on safe returns and other relevant topics.
Promote the integration of durable solutions into humanitarian and development programming at all levels.
Coordinate with INGOs to ensure their active participation in discussions related to early recovery and resilience building.
Facilitate the bi-monthly meetings of the Durable Solutions Working Group, ensuring effective collaboration among stakeholders.
Support the implementation of the UN Secretary-General’s Action Agenda on Internal Displacement and related policies.
Conduct mapping of humanitarian and development efforts by INGOs that support solutions to displacement.
Promote community-driven approaches in programming and advocate for best practices in external meetings.
Identify resource mobilization opportunities to support durable solutions initiatives in Sudan.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of documented international experience in resilience programming, durable solutions to displacement, or self-reliance programming, preferably in Sudan or similar contexts. Experience in complex and volatile environments is essential, with a preference for candidates who have worked in Africa. Strong communication and representation skills are required, along with the ability to manage multiple competing deliverables. Candidates should have a Master’s Degree in a related field or a Bachelor’s Degree with equivalent work experience. Proficiency in project planning and management cycles is necessary, as well as strong organizational and documentation skills. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in advocacy and communication strategies.
Educational Background: A Master’s Degree in a relevant field is required, although a Bachelor’s Degree with equivalent work experience may be considered. The educational background should ideally include studies related to humanitarian assistance, international development, or a similar discipline that equips the candidate with the necessary knowledge and skills for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of documented international experience in relevant fields, particularly in resilience programming and durable solutions to displacement. Candidates should have experience working with UN agencies, governments, and donors at both national and international levels, demonstrating a strong understanding of project planning and management cycles. Previous experience in Africa or similar contexts is preferred, particularly in complex and volatile environments.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication and engagement with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: The position is offered as a twelve-month contract with the possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance evaluations. The salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for International staff or under terms of employment for National Staff in Sudan. The position is graded at NM.F, and the duty station is initially in Port Sudan, with a possibility of relocation to Khartoum. The successful candidate is expected to start immediately and will report to the Head of Programme.
