Job Overview: The HVAC Technician position is critical to ensuring the operational integrity of the IAEA Laboratories in Seibersdorf. Under the guidance of the Supervisor of the Technical Support Group, the HVAC Technician is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and repairing all cooling, heating, and ventilation systems within the laboratories. This role requires a proactive approach to technical emergencies, ensuring that all systems function smoothly and efficiently at all times. The technician will work independently and must be prepared to respond to any technical issues that arise, ensuring that the laboratory environment remains conducive to research and development activities. The HVAC Technician will also be involved in preventative maintenance activities and will coordinate with subcontractors to upgrade existing HVAC infrastructure as needed. This position is essential for maintaining the safety and functionality of the laboratory environment, which may involve exposure to radioactive materials, necessitating adherence to strict safety protocols and health monitoring.
Duties and Responsibilities: The HVAC Technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: installing, maintaining, repairing, and testing HVAC systems and water-conditioning systems; monitoring the operation of major air-conditioning water-chillers and associated equipment; checking the condition of equipment for fault location and performing repairs on various mechanical components; setting up test procedures for equipment verification; providing technical support to ensure maintenance and repair work meets specifications; participating in preventative maintenance activities; coordinating with subcontractors; assisting in the continuous upgrading of HVAC infrastructure; participating in the laboratory maintenance on-call scheme; and assisting colleagues outside of their specialization when necessary. The technician must also be prepared to work in environments where exposure to radioactive materials is possible, requiring medical clearance and adherence to radiation safety regulations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed secondary education and possess an apprenticeship or vocational training in HVAC systems, mechanical engineering, or a related field. A specialization in heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of four years of relevant working experience, including extensive experience in monitoring and repairing HVAC systems, as well as a good working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is desirable, and candidates should demonstrate discretion and respect for confidentiality in a scientific laboratory environment.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes completed secondary education, followed by an apprenticeship and vocational schooling specifically in HVAC systems or a related technical field. Additional Notes: The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 50,032, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Employees are entitled to six weeks of annual vacation, a pension plan, and health insurance.
