The Driver position at FHI 360 is crucial for ensuring the safe and timely transportation of staff, visitors, and project materials within Kathmandu and its field sites. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for the following key duties:
  • Safely drive FHI 360 vehicles to project field sites and within Kathmandu, ensuring timely transportation of staff, visitors, and project materials.
  • Maintain vehicles in good working condition, ensuring they are clean and properly maintained, overseeing routine maintenance and timely servicing.
  • Keep accurate vehicle logbooks that detail mileage, fuel usage, and maintenance records.
  • Assist in loading and unloading project materials, equipment, and supplies as necessary.
  • Deliver official correspondence, mails, and parcels as required by the organization.
  • Report any vehicle issues or accidents immediately to the supervisor and follow up on necessary repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with all traffic laws, safety regulations, and FHI 360 vehicle policies.
  • Coordinate with administrative staff for scheduling vehicle use and ensuring availability for program activities.
  • Perform minor troubleshooting or emergency repairs on vehicles when needed. 1
  • Prepare periodic reports on vehicle usage and maintenance for management review. 1
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the supervisor related to transportation and logistics support.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • A minimum of SLC (Secondary Level Certificate) with 3-4 years of relevant driving experience.
  • A valid driving license is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of vehicle machinery, parts, and basic maintenance practices is essential.
  • Strong ability to read and write in both English and Nepali is required.
  • Willingness to travel outside the Kathmandu valley as required.
  • Ability to perform minor troubleshooting and emergency repairs on vehicles when necessary.
  • Candidates should be punctual, reliable, and capable of managing time effectively to adhere to field visit and transportation schedules.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, team-building, and problem-solving skills are crucial for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a Secondary Level Certificate (SLC). This foundational education is essential for understanding basic vehicle operations and maintenance, as well as for effective communication in both English and Nepali.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have 3-4 years of driving experience, which should include familiarity with various types of vehicles and the ability to navigate safely in urban and rural settings. Experience in a similar role within a nonprofit or development organization is preferred but not mandatory.

Languages:
Proficiency in both English and Nepali is mandatory for this position. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages is essential for interacting with staff, visitors, and local communities. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
