Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer for Data Analysis involves supporting UNFPA Somalia in enhancing the availability and quality of demographic data. The volunteer will engage in various tasks related to data preparation and analysis, which are crucial for effective policy-making and planning. This role requires technical expertise in data management and analysis, particularly using software such as SPSS or Stata. The volunteer will also be responsible for transferring skills to national technical staff, ensuring that local capacities are built for ongoing data management and analysis. The overall goal is to improve real-time monitoring and spatial analysis of demographic data, which is essential for informed decision-making in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare data for analysis, including data editing, splitting, merging, cleaning, imputation, and restructuring.
  • Develop associated syntax in SPSS or Stata to ensure reproducibility of data analysis processes.
  • Transfer skills and knowledge to national technical staff involved in the project to enhance their capabilities in data management.
  • Prepare a tabulation plan for the socio-demographic survey based on the questionnaire and project documentation.
  • Generate and validate tables under the guidance of the UNFPA demographer, ensuring accuracy and reliability of the data presented.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure that data insights are effectively communicated and utilized for policy and planning purposes.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong technical expertise in data analysis and management, particularly using SPSS or Stata.
  • Experience in preparing and cleaning data for analysis.
  • Ability to develop reproducible syntax for data analysis.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively transfer knowledge to national staff.
  • Familiarity with socio-demographic surveys and tabulation plans is an advantage.

Educational Background:
A degree in statistics, data science, social sciences, or a related field is preferred. Advanced studies or certifications in data analysis or statistical software will be considered an asset.

Experience:
Previous experience in data analysis, particularly in a development or humanitarian context, is highly desirable. Experience working with demographic data and conducting socio-demographic surveys will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Somali or other local languages is an advantage but not required.
