Job Overview:
The Migration Health Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Douala, Cameroon. This position involves providing essential information related to health assessment programs and assisting migrants throughout the applicant processing stages. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer and the Senior Medical Assistant, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the health assessment services offered by IOM. The role requires flexibility as the medical assistant may be assigned to different subunits, including the reception and data processing unit or the call center. The successful candidate will be responsible for data collection, entry, and handling inquiries, ensuring that migrants receive the necessary assistance and information regarding their health assessments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Migration Health Medical Assistant include:
  • Providing information to migrants regarding health assessments via phone and in person.
  • Registering migrants in the IOM database, scheduling and confirming medical appointments, and communicating messages for medical staff and beneficiaries.
  • Preparing master lists of migrants scheduled for health assessments and submitting them to relevant service providers.
  • Maintaining daily statistics related to health assessments and updating records accordingly.
  • Performing data processing activities, including explaining the registration process to applicants, checking identities, entering biodata, taking photos, and printing necessary documents.
  • Receiving completed medical examination forms and updating the database while ensuring quality checks are performed.
  • Preparing, sorting, and packaging medical files during mobile health assessment missions.
  • Transmitting completed medical forms and documents to partners via electronic means or courier services, ensuring accurate contact information is used.
  • Filing incoming and outgoing correspondence and IOM documents related to medical issues. 1
  • Checking and photocopying bank deposit slips and submitting them to the Administrative/Finance Assistant. 1
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Migration Health Medical Assistant position include:
  • A University Degree with at least two years of relevant working experience, or a Secondary School Diploma with at least four years of relevant working experience.
  • A certificate in IT/Data entry is considered an advantage.
  • Experience in computer data entry, elaboration, and analysis, or in a call center, preferably in a medical institution.
  • Knowledge of customer care principles and medical terminology is beneficial.
  • Previous experience working with NGOs or international organizations is an added advantage.
  • Proven knowledge and/or certification in data analysis tools such as Power BI and programming languages like SQL are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with healthcare-specific systems such as Electronic Health Record Systems (EHRs) is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of the business process and data management of the Interim Federal Health Programme (IFHP) is a plus.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a University Degree with at least two years of relevant working experience, or a Secondary School Diploma with a minimum of four years of relevant working experience. A certificate in IT/Data entry is advantageous and may enhance the candidate's profile for this position.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have experience in computer data entry, elaboration, and analysis, or in a call center environment, preferably within a medical institution. Knowledge of customer care and medical terminology is essential, and previous experience with NGOs or international organizations is highly regarded. Familiarity with data analysis tools, programming languages, and healthcare-specific systems will significantly benefit the candidate's application.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for all external applicants in the Professional category, along with at least a working knowledge of one additional UN language, which may include Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish. Fluency in both English and French, both oral and written, is required for all applicants.
