Job Overview:
The Project Coordinator will oversee the implementation of a Japanese funding grant to UNFPA Afghanistan for the year 2026, ensuring the successful utilization of investments as outlined in the project proposal. This role involves managing internal fund records, ensuring proper financial flow for programming teams, and facilitating timely disbursements of funds in coordination with the Resource Mobilization Branch. The coordinator will also support tracking funding utilization to provide a systematic overview of financial resources, enhancing strategic planning and resource allocation for effective program implementation. Additionally, the role includes coordinating the implementation of 60 Family Health Houses as per proposals, producing situational reports, briefing notes, and project reports, and tracking progress on monitoring and evaluation indicators. Effective communication of the grant's impact through social media channels in collaboration with the communication unit is also a key responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the implementation of the Japanese funding grant to UNFPA Afghanistan, ensuring adherence to the project proposal and successful investment utilization.
  • Manage internal fund records in relevant systems, such as Quantum, to ensure proper financial flow for programming teams.
  • Coordinate timely disbursements of funds after liaising with the Resource Mobilization Branch for project implementation.
  • Support tracking of funding utilization to maintain a systematic overview of financial resources, aiding in strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate the implementation of 60 Family Health Houses according to proposals, ensuring compliance with project objectives.
  • Produce situational reports, briefing notes, and project reports, including tracking progress on monitoring and evaluation indicators.
  • Ensure timely communication of the grant's impact across all social media channels in collaboration with the communication unit to maximize exposure.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong organizational and management skills, with a proven ability to oversee complex projects and coordinate multiple stakeholders. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for effective reporting and social media engagement. Candidates should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in challenging environments, with a commitment to the mission and values of UNFPA. Proficiency in financial management and reporting is required, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in public health, social sciences, international development, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project management, preferably within the context of international development or humanitarian assistance. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations is highly desirable, as is familiarity with financial management and reporting processes.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Afghanistan is an asset and may enhance communication with local stakeholders.
