Job Overview: The Communications Officer position at DRC Syria is pivotal in enhancing the organization's visibility and reputation through the development of a diverse range of communication products. This role is essential for ensuring that all communications align with established standards, including compliance with communications SOPs, branding guidelines, and organizational values. The Communications Officer will be responsible for crafting clear and impactful messaging that resonates with various audiences, thereby supporting program delivery. The position involves designing and implementing awareness campaigns, producing educational materials, and fostering relationships with key stakeholders, including beneficiaries and the public. The officer will play a crucial role in informing target audiences about critical issues, such as Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE), and will be expected to engage effectively with the community to promote understanding and two-way communication. This role requires collaboration with different teams to ensure that communication efforts are cohesive and impactful, ultimately contributing to the organization's mission of supporting displaced individuals and communities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including ensuring adherence to donor requirements and visibility guidelines for ongoing projects. This involves timely and high-quality production of communication materials such as success stories, case studies, newsletters, fact sheets, photographs, and videos, ensuring accurate dissemination to stakeholders. The officer will also produce materials for online and social media platforms to engage audiences and showcase DRC's work in Syria. Developing and monitoring communications plans and schedules, liaising with staff to ensure timely production of reports and publications, and ensuring compliance with DRC and donor guidelines are key responsibilities. The officer will engage with media to generate coverage of DRC’s programs, prepare background materials for media briefings, and assist in organizing public events. Additionally, the role includes supporting partners in producing impactful communication materials, building the capacity of DRC’s team and partners in communication skills, and planning and implementing tailored campaigns and awareness activities. Frequent travel to field offices for documentation and content gathering is expected, along with maintaining an organized archive of communication materials. The officer will also support the development of innovative EORE materials and ensure that all communication products comply with relevant regulations and DRC policies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Communications Officer position must possess a minimum of three years of work experience in the media and communications field, particularly within humanitarian, development, or NGO/INGO contexts. Proven experience in producing high-quality communication materials and working with donor visibility requirements is essential. The candidate should have demonstrated experience in media engagement and writing for social media and web platforms. Excellent writing and editing skills in both English and Arabic are mandatory, along with experience in multimedia software design. The ability to provide capacity-building training and coaching to non-specialist teams in communication skills is also required. Strong coordination and interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively across departments and with partners, and proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is essential.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, or a similar relevant field is required for the Communications Officer position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for effective communication and media engagement in a humanitarian context.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience in the media and communications field. Candidates should have experience working with humanitarian organizations, development agencies, or NGOs/INGOs, with a proven track record of producing high-quality communication materials and engaging with media. Additional Notes: The contract for the Communications Officer position is set to run from 1 March 2026 until 31 December 2026, with the possibility of extension based on performance and available funding.
